Baby Safety Products For Childproofing

>> Safety

As much as we love newborn baby clothes, it is very important that we bring up baby safety. There is nothing more important to a family and to parents than a baby. It is the symbol of the parents’ love, and a bundle of joy that will bring happiness and warmth to the family. This is why it is very important to make sure that safety is ensured, and the most important place to do this is in the home. This is what is called childproofing.

There is no better time to begin childproofing your home than now, regardless if a baby is already here or is still just on the way. This is because putting the effort off over and over will result in the baby arriving before you know it, with the house still full of hazards. People who can spare the time can do the childproofing on their own, though professionals are on hand to do this for a fee in case the time cannot be spared. Regardless if done on their own or professionally, here are tips people can take to childproof the home.

The first thing that needs to be checked are the stoves, ovens, and electrical appliances and their respective sockets. Ovens and stoves can be turned on and crawled into, refrigerators can cause hypothermia to children who manage to crawl into them, and electrical appliances such as irons and electric fans can cause major injury if babies come in contact with them, in addition to the existing risk of electrical sockets.

The solution to this is to install locking latches on all of the appliances that open and close, in places where babies cannot reach them. When it comes to electrical appliances, unplugging them when not in use is a good solution, and adding socket blockers, plastic plugs that prevent items from being inserted into sockets not in use, will solve the problem. In addition, cables to electrical appliances, such as TVs, should be hidden, to prevent the baby from accidentally getting entangled and causing the appliance to fall on them.

The next things that need to be looked at are the furniture and decorative glassware. Furniture, such as cabinets and tables, will often have swinging doors and sharp corners that babies can bump into, causing everything from minor bruises to cuts and lacerations. Cabinets that have hazardous materials can also be a problem. Cabinet latches can solve this, and for the corners of the cabinets and tables, table cushions, which act like soft bumpers, can help prevent those nasty bumps. For glassware, the best solution is to just move those items to places where they will be out of reach.

The last place that needs to be checked are the stairs. The stairs can definitely be a hazard, and it can be all too easy for babies to just fall from them and get injured. The best solution to this is to install baby safety gates, both at the bottom and the top of the stairs. The latch should be out of reach, and not easily opened. As babies grow, the gates should be made higher. And as a safety precaution for the rest of the family, be sure that newborn baby toys are not left lying on the stairs, as they could be a tripping hazard.

These are just a handful of tips, and can definitely be applied to other areas of the house, with a little ingenuity, and some imagination. Remember that babyproofing a home is an extra precaution. It is no substitute for keeping a watchful eye on the little one at all times.
